The in-development big-budget “Harry Potter” series, which was going to be a Max original but is now an HBO original following a brand re-strategy, has locked in two key members of its creative team.
The series has set two Emmy-winning “Succession” alum in key roles – Francesca Gardiner as its writer and showrunner, along with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes.
Gardiner has served as a writer and producer on “Killing Eve,” “His Dark Materials” and “The Rook”. Mylod has directed episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Last of Us,” “Shameless,” “The Affair” and the film “The Menu”.
The series is expected to be a ‘faithful adaptation’ of author J.K. Rowling’s mega-selling fantasy series about the young wizard. A new cast will lead a new generation of fandom.
Casting will be announced later as a date for the show hasn’t been set yet beyond a 2026 debut being targeted. Rowling will be an executive producer along with David Heyman, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts.
