Eddie Murphy says his proposed remake of Stanley Kramer’s 1963 ensemble comedy classic “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” is coming along – and quicker than expected.
The original 1963 movie was led by Spencer Tracy and featured comedy legends like Buddy Hackett, Jonathan Winters and Milton Berle. It follows a group of characters travelling across a state attempting to find a hidden loot.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight ahead of the release of “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” next week, Murphy says the remake will be sooner than we think with the script being handled by “Ford v Ferrari” and “Edge of Tomorrow” scribe Jez Butterworth.
Murphy says he hopes to lure many top comedians of modern times to join the project which he’s been developing for years:
“I’m trying to do a remake of that movie […] It’s one of my favorite movies of all time and if I do it, if the script turns out right, it’s gonna be a cast of all the who’s who of comedians. Anybody that was funny over the last 30 years is going to be in this movie.”
He also indicates “Bad Boys” star Martin Lawrence could be one of the people along for the ride. Though an official remake hasn’t happened to date, unofficial remakes using the same premise have been frequent – most notably with 2001’s “Rat Race”.
