The highly anticipated next film of “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman” director Robert Eggers, his long-gestating dream project which re-imagines “Nosferatu,” will reportedly release its first trailer online on Monday at 11am US-ET/8am US-PT.
The premiere follows in the wake of the trailer being attached to some copies of “The Bikeriders” this weekend in cinemas. As that was the only way to view it, it came as little surprise when camcorded versions of the trailer quickly spread across social media yesterday.
The clip is reportedly mostly quite similar to a reel shown at CinemaCon in April, but with some additional footage added. The clip is dripping with atmosphere with frightened villagers, repeated warnings of “he’s coming” and scant glimpses (in shadow) of Count Orlok – this time he has hair.
The money shot that has people talking involves the shadow of a giant clawed hand flying over a city. It’s incredibly evocative and promises Eggers’ visual style is coming to this.
Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicolas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson and Simon McBurney star in the film inspired by F.W. Murnau’s legendary original 1922 feature.
The story is dubbed a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th-century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
“Nosferatu” will open in cinemas around Christmas.
