Sony Pictures is reportedly exploring the possibility of a new take on Joel Schumacher’s 1985 ‘Brat Pack’ classic “St. Elmo’s Fire”.

The project would hinge on being able to reunite original cast members Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Mare Winningham.

Schumacher and Carl Kurlander co-wrote the film which dealt with a group of early twentysomething friends making the transition from graduating at Georgetown University to starting their career and lives.

The film was a hit, but was famous more for its cast and successful soundtrack than its dramatic chops with negative reviews comparing it poorly to much better-received ensembles like the younger-skewing “The Breakfast Club” and older-skewing “The Big Chill”.

This follow-up would follow the characters as they’ve come out the other end of all that – now in their early 60s and coming into retirement.

The news follows in the wake of McCarthy‘s Hulu documentary “Brats” which explores the Brat Pack.
