The Marvel Cinematic Universe will do its own attempt at the Fantastic Four, marking the third go around at bringing the characters into live-action this century.
The first attempt happened even before the MCU began, starting back in 2005 with the Tim Story-directed “Fantastic Four”. That film starred Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm/The Thing and a young Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.
The film was enough of a commercial success that a sequel was done, though that didn’t fare anywhere near as well. Recently, Alba looked back at her time in the role some twenty years after she was hired and shot the film.
She tells ComicBook.com she has no regrets about it, in fact she says the role still holds a special place in her heart:
“It’s nothing but fond memories. I loved it so much playing that character. I feel like my whole life started in a lot of ways at that moment.
I met my life partner, we’re still together, we have three kids. Tim Story, who directed, is still one of my best friends. We have New Year’s Eve together.
It was great and she was such a cool, inspiring character and ahead of her time, I would say, in the genre. And still, you still haven’t seen someone who is so nurturing and feminine, but then also a fearsome badass. I haven’t seen that combination again.
And so I think she still fills this beautiful kind of space or void in the Marvel universe.”
“The Crown” and “Mission: Impossible” alum Vanessa Kirby will take on the role of Sue Storm in the new “Fantastic Four” movie which is set to begin filming shortly ahead of a release next year.
