CBS Studios has premiered the official trailer for the second season of its animated series “Star Trek: Prodigy” which will launch on Netflix on July 1st.
The first season followed a young cast of alien teens who come across an abandoned experimental Starfleet vessel, the Protostar, and use it to travel the stars in the hopes of ultimately becoming Starfleet Academy students.
The second season sees Vau N’Akat villain Asencia (Jameela Jamil) and Starfleet Officer Commander Tysess (Daveed Diggs) joining the cast as the youngsters go on a classified mission.
All twenty episodes of the second season will release on that date and follows in the wake of a French streamer accidentally releasing the entirety of the second season all at once and without any warning back in March.
Paramount+ abruptly cancelled the series in June last year – even as the second season had almost finished production and was completed shortly after.
Numerous fan campaigns and social media protests led to Netflix picking up both completed seasons in October. They re-aired the first season late last year, whilst the second season will be an all-new Netflix original.
The series was developed by Emmy winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (“Trollhunters”).
