An update on 85-year-old actor Sir Ian McKellen has arrived following the “X-Men” and “The Lord of the Rings” star’s falling off a London stage during a performance of “Player Kings” this week.
Deadline reports that McKellen suffered a fractured wrist from the fall at Noel Coward Theatre on Monday night.
McKellen was taken to the hospital following his fall, where he was treated for the wrist and a handful of other undisclosed injuries.
McKellen says he’s “hugely indebted” to medical staff from the UK’s National Health Service for treating him and that his recovery will be “complete and speedy and I am looking forward to returning to work.”
The theatre itself reported earlier that McKellen will make a “full recovery” and that the actor was in good spirits. The performance on Wednesday June 19th will be cancelled, but the production will resume Thursday without the actor.
The production says in a statement: “we are delighted that Ian is recovering well, and look forward to him returning to the production as soon as he is ready.”
