David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes will join the previously announced Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie in the crime-comedy “The Thursday Murder Club” at Amblin and Netflix.
The property is based on Richard Osman’s 2020 novel of the same name and is being written and directed by “Home Alone,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” and “Harry Potter” filmmaker Chris Columbus.
The story follows a group of friends in a retirement home – an ex-spy (Mirren), ex-psychiatrist (Kingsley), ex-union activist (Brosnan) and ex-nurse (Imrie) who gather to solve murders for fun.
They soon find themselves caught up in a real case. No word on the roles the five newcomers to the project will play as yet. Osman calls it the “greatest British cast assembled since the [Harry Potter] movies”.
Columbus, Holly Bario, Jeb Brody, Eleanor Columbus, Jo Burn and Jennifer Todd produce. Filming begins later this month.
The project also falls under the Netflix and Amblin film partnership deal which also includes the Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman-led “Carry-On”.
