Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has announced that George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is coming to PVOD platforms as a $30 buy and $25 rental on June 25th.
The title will then be made available to own on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD starting August 13th. The disc release will include multiple featurettes. The ‘Black & Chrome’ edition will release later this year and feature an introduction from Miller.
The release comes just a month after the film hit cinemas on May 24th and, despite good critical reviews, has been one of the year’s biggest box-office bombs with a $160 million gross to date against a budget of $168 million.
As a result, chances of another film in the franchise any time soon (if at all) seem remote. Out promoting “The Bikeriders,” actor Tom Hardy was asked by Forbes about the “Mad Max: The Wasteland” film.
He only responded: “I don’t think that’s happening”. The project was to see Hardy reprise his ‘Fury Road’ role of Max Rockatansky in scenes set before that film’s events.
“Mad Max: Fury Road” itself wasn’t a big theatrical hit considering its budget – grossing around $380.4 million at the time. Where it really took off was on home video and streaming, and Warners is likely hoping for such a resurrection here.
