Australian twin filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, aka RackaRacka, have exited the new adaptation of the classic Capcom video game “Street Fighter” at Legendary.
The helmers behind last year’s horror smash “Talk to Me” are no longer involved in the film with scheduling conflicts put down as the reason.
Namely, Legendary and Capcom wanted to begin sooner rather than later, but the Philippous are currently committed to the Sally Hawkins-led “Bring Her Back” at A24. That project begins shooting later this month in Australia.
The pair have been attached to the project since April last year. The film is now looking for a new director, one who can preferably start straight away.
The long enduring fighting video game got a new installment with “Street Fighter VI” last year and began life with the 1987 arcade game. With 1991’s “Street Fighter II,” it became a pop culture icon and mainstay.
The property was previously adapted both as the infamous 1994 film with Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, Kylie Minogue and Ming-Na Wen, and the 2009 “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” with Kristin Kreuk.
