Beloved “The Lord of the Rings” and “X-Men” actor Sir Ian McKellen has been taken to hospital after falling off stage during a performance in London reports BBC News.
McKellen was in a fight scene during a performance of “Player Kings” at the Noël Coward theatre when he reportedly lost his footing and fell off the front of the stage.
The 85-year-old actor plays John Falstaff in the play, a re-interpretation of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV: Parts One and Two” with a scene involving him along with the Prince of Wales and Henry Percy.
It is not clear whether he has sustained any injuries, but one eyewitness tells the outlet he was conscious and asking for assistance. He reportedly cried out in pain after the fall and staff rushed to help.
The audience was evacuated and informed that the evening show was cancelled. “Player Kings” started its 12-week West End run in April.
