Austin Butler has responded to recent rumors that he’s up for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” reboot at Disney Pictures.
Speaking with ET Online while out promoting “The Bikeriders,” the 32-year-old actor was asked about the talk which began in mid-May when it was said Disney had pegged him for one of the two new ‘Pirates’ films.
As producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed last month, oine will be a reboot with an entirely new cast and the other will be a female-centric film with Margot Robbie starring. The former is likely the one to go first.
The “Dune: Part Two” and “Elvis” star tells the outlet:
“Oh really, I haven’t heard about that. I loved Pirates of the Caribbean. That just reminded me of when I was a kid. In elementary school, we had to make these posters that had like your favorite music, your favorite actors. And at that time – I don’t know what grade, it must have been fourth grade, third grade or something – but it was — Pirates of the Caribbean was on there.”
He goes on to say because those films are so important to him, he is slightly hesitant at the idea of joining: “It’s a hard one to touch because they did it so well. I loved what Johnny [Depp] did with that.”
The prior films saw Orlando Bloom, Sam Claflin and Brenton Thwaites in the ‘young hunk’ role opposite Depp’s eccentric Captain Jack. The last ‘Pirates’ film hit cinemas in 2017.
