Nearly a year after it aired, Lucasfilm Creative Chief Dave Filoni popped up on the Happy Sad Confused podcast this week to reflect on “Star Wars: Ahsoka” alongside that show’s stars Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen.
We know Filoni is writing a second season of the show and, as announced during the Star Wars Celebration event, is directing an untitled film that seems to be serving as a mashup of the Mandoverse series.
Asked for an update on the status of the film, Filoni says that the process of writing the second season of “Ahsoka” is helping him get a clearer idea of where his film is headed which is expected to be the culmination of the Mandoverse.
As a result, the film sounds like it is a good while off as the sophomore run of “Ahsoka” takes precedence:
“I work in very long threads, and so, telling a story, I always have to know where this is going. What’s the outcome of what’s this going to be?
And fans who have followed me know this about my work, about ‘Clone Wars’ and when ‘Clone Wars’ started, I had a good idea of how it was going to end. It changed a little bit as it went on, but it’s still very relative to the things that happened.
Because I’ve been writing season two of ‘Ashoka,’ things have clicked and I have a much better about where things are going to go [in this movie]
And I will say I have an opening that I really like quite a bit, and I’m very excited about it for that picture. And I’m excited about the potential of the doing of it. But right now, my focus is clearly on [‘Ahsoka’] season two as well as the rest of the galaxy and how it’s spinning.
Right now, it’s one foot in front of the other, and for me, it’s going at its normal development point in the way I make these stories happen.”
Filoni adds he’s been working with Jon Favreau on “The Mandalorian & Grog” film which is due in cinemas May 2026 along with “all the other things we’re developing.”
