Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson are confirmed to be circling roles in “Point Break,” “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Strange Days” helmer Kathryn Bigelow’s next film.
The InSneider broke the news and Deadline later confirmed that both actors are up for parts in the film which is moving fast ever since Bigelow exited the long-gestating “Aurora” film at Netflix over budgetary issues.
She went back to the streamer with another, more cost-effective project, and this one was quickly approved. Former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim penned the script which unfolds almost entirely in the White House.
The film will reportedly unfold in real-time and have its characters reacting to ballistic missiles heading for America. The project is one of the first green lights under Netflix’s new film chief Dan Lin.
Details of what characters the actors would play are under wraps. Shooting on the project is slated to begin in July in Pennsylvania (according to WoR) with a 2025 release likely.
Ferguson, who has been shooting the second season of Apple TV+ series “Silo,” is rumored to be joining the cast of the “Peaky Blinders” movie – potentially as the film’s villain.
