After a rather dead May at the box-office with some “Apes” being the only sign of life, June got a strong start with “Bad Boys for Life” having a strong $56 million debut last weekend.

The momentum will continue this weekend with Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” on track for a major opening thought to be around $85-90 million – marking a welcome return to form for Pixar.

While next week is relatively quiet, Paramount’s “A Quiet Place: Day One” is tracking for a $40+ million opening on June 28th.

Now, Deadline reports that projections for the July 4th holiday weekend have come in and things are looking up. Illumination and Universal Pictures’ “Despicable Me 4” opens Wednesday July 3rd and is reportedly on track for a five-day (Wed-Sun) debut of over $100 million.

“Despicable Me 4” is reportedly tracking better than “Minions: Rise of Gru” and that film had a four-day opening of $123 million – so expect big things here.

One thing the film is doing well, better than a lot of other movies this Summer, is getting a specific demographic interested – namely men under 25.
