The earliest tracking figures are in for Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” and the film is currently on track for one of the biggest opening box office weekends ever.
Deadline reports that the film is currently projected to make between $200-$237 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend.
That’s easily more than double the highest opening weekend for an R-rated film to date, which was “Joker” in 2019 with $96.2 million – that film went on to make over $1 billion by the time it ended its run.
It’s also well above the first two “Deadpool” films which made $132.4 million and $125.5 million respectively in their debut weekends. It will easily be the biggest of either of its starts.
The number would put it well into the Top 5 openings of all time – somewhere between “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in second with $260 million, and “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi” in fifth with $220 million.
The biggest ever opening however, “Avengers: Endgame,” is unlikely to see its $357 million haul challenged.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” releases in cinemas on July 26th.
