Robert Pattinson is teaming with “Smile” filmmaker Parker Finn on a remake of the cult 1981 psychological supernatural horror movie “Possession”.
Polish filmmaker Andrzej Zulawski helmed the West Berlin-set original which starred a young Sam Neill as a spy who returns home from the field to his wife (Isabella Adjani) and son.
The wife soon asks for a divorce and the couple descend into a destructive cycle of infidelity and neglect. Things get even crazier with murder, doppelgangers, and a tentacled alien creature.
A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony and Warner Bros. are amongst those engaged in a bidding war for the remake with meetings underway this week. The new version is said to be ‘out there’ but also a project with strong commercial potential.
Finn is attached to write the script and direct. Pattinson is producing though his Icki Eneo Arlo label whilst his acting involvement will become clearer once the script and schedules develop. Roy Lee also produces.
Finn is currently in post-production on the “Smile” sequel, the first film becoming the biggest horror hit of 2022.
