A TV series based on John Grisham’s 1995 novel “The Rainmaker” has been greenlit at the USA Network.
Grisham serves as executive producer on the series alongside Jason Blum for Blumhouse Television and Lionsgate Television.
In the series, young and fresh out of law school Rudy Baylor goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond as well as his law school girlfriend.
Rudy, along with his boss and her disheveled paralegal, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.
“Code Black” and “Intelligence” creator Michael Seitzman will write the series and co-wrote the pilot with “Stumptown” creator Jason Richman. Both executive produce along with David Gernert.
The series will mark only the second scripted series to air on the cabler – the other being Syfy’s “Chucky”.
Francis Ford Coppola directed the prior and well-regarded 1997 film adaptation of “The Rainmaker” which starred Matt Damon, Claire Danes, Jon Voight, Danny DeVito, Mary Kay Place, Mickey Rourke, Danny Glover, Roy Scheider, Virginia Madsen and Teresa Wright
