Pixar’s “Inside Out” sequel is heading for a stellar debut at the box-office this weekend going by current projections.

Estimates for the Disney & Pixar film indicate this follow-up to the beloved 2015 animated hit will have a three-day opening weekend domestic haul of between $80-90 million.

There’s a very strong chance it will overtake both “Dune: Part Two” ($82.5 million) and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” ($80 million) to land the biggest film opening of the year.

It is also the only new nationwide release this weekend and will easily overtake last weekend’s top earner, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”, which is expected to follow up its strong $56.5 million debut with a solid $28 million second weekend.

“Inside Out 2” will also easily beat the disastrous $29.6 million opening of “Elemental” last year – the worst start in Pixar’s modern history. That film was saved by having legs and was ultimately able to gross $495 million worldwide.

However it will need to do good business with its sizable $200 million production budget – far more considerable than efforts like “Kung Fu Panda 4” ($85 million) or “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($100-150 million).

Helping that will be its international release with 60% of its overseas markets opening the film this week and it’s expected $50 million will be generated by end of Sunday overseas.

Its also been revealed that Disney/Pixar is rendering a version of the movie in high dynamic range which will play in a limited number of cinemas worldwide that are equipped with certified HDR-capable direct-view displays.
