In an amusing bit of marketing for its upcoming “Despicable Me 4” film, Universal Pictures and Illumination have released a one-minute promo which makes fun of interconnected film universe slate reveals.

Just like Marvel does with its various ‘Phases’, Warners with their DC slate, or Lucasfilm has done with its “Star Wars” properties, the clip features a timeline slide showing off titles of future projects for what it dubs the ‘MegaVerse’.

Steve Carell promotes the slate that ties to the five ‘Mega-Minions’ characters in the new movie and says straight-faced that it’s “fifty interconnected Megaminions stories shared across a variety of mediums on an irregular basis across the next one hundred years”.

Titles visible include: “Mega-Minions: Electric Gru-Galoo,” “Mega-Minions: The Tax Write-Off,” “Mega-Minions: Quantum of Soulless,” “Mad Mega: Furry Road,” “Mega-Minions: Mega Musical On Ice” and more.

The clip points to a website featuring the entire ‘slate’ described complete with logos and synopses. Universal’s marketing department obviously had fun with this, check it out for yourself at EnterTheMegaverse.com.

“Despicable Me 4” follows Gru (Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their girls – Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan) – welcoming Gru Jr. to the family. A child intent on tormenting his dad.

Gru also faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run. “Despicable Me 4” opens in cinemas on July 3rd.
