Nightdive Studios has announced “The Thing: Remastered,” a remastered version of the cult-classic and acclaimed 2002 survival horror game based on the 1982 John Carpenter movie.
The game is described as a ‘faithful restoration’ of the squad-based third-person shooter, and will support up to 4K and 120FPS gameplay through the company’s proprietary KEX Engine.
There’s also upgraded models, textures, enhanced lighting, atmospheric effects, and animations hand-crafted by Nightdive.
Computer Artworks developed the title which served as a sequel to Carpenter’s legendary film. You played Captain Blake who is sent to the Antarctic outpost featured in the film to try and figure out what has happened to the crew.
Players tried to avoid various enemies and command various NPCs who join you as you progress through the game. The title was a commercial success; selling over one million units worldwide at the time on PC/PS2/Xbox and landing quite positive reviews.
But within a year the developer went into receivership and the game has generally been very hard to find and/or get working on modern systems.
“The Thing: Remastered” currently has no release date beyond a confirmed release sometime this year on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
