Netflix is further expanding the “SpongeBob SquarePants” franchise with the announcement of “Plankton: The Movie” as part of its Next on Netflix Animation presentation today.
In the film, Plankton’s world is flipped upside down when his plan for world domination is thwarted.
Mr. Lawrence, who voices the character, will return for the film and came up with the story. He also co-wrote the script with Kaz and Chris Viscardi.
Also starring are Jill Talley (Karen), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick Star), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) and Rodger Bumpass (Squidward).
The project is being directed by Dave Needham with Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller serving as executive producers.
It marks Netflix’s second “SpongeBob” project following the upcoming film “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie” which will premiere on the service on August 2nd.
That film sees SpongeBob and Sandy travelling to Texas to save their home from a villainous plot after the residents of Bikini Bottom are suddenly scooped from the ocean.
“Plankton: The Movie” will arrive on the service in 2025.
