An extensive new report at Bloomberg has gone into the failure of Rocksteady Games’ live service title “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”.
The developer’s switch from its acclaimed single-player “Batman: Arkham” games to the live service ‘Squad’ has reportedly led to a $200 million loss for its parent company Warner Bros. Pictures,
Now, the piece reveals Warner Bros. Games boss David Haddad visited Rocksteady’s London office earlier this year to deliver its verdict on where they go next.
The good news is no job cuts were planned as Warner’s games business is seen as “relatively understaffed compared to other publishers”.
What they are going to have to do is better collaborate between the various studios under the Warner umbrella like NetherRealm Studios and Monolith Productions.
That’s why a large number of Rocksteady developers are currently working on a new version of 2023’s top-seller “Hogwarts Legacy” which has sold over 24 million copies since its release last February. That game just received a free summer update today.
Following the Batman Arkham studio’s struggles in the live service space, it’s claimed that Rocksteady leaders are also planning to pitch a new single-player title to Warner Bros. Games.
