Oscar winner and “Morbius” star Jared Leto is set to produce and star in a new film based on the story of retired professor-turned-cat burglar suspect Dr. Lawrence Gray.
Andy Bellin (“Lovelace”) pens the work which adapts Steve Kroft and Howard L. Rosenberg’s article “The Talented Dr. Gray” which was published in 2022.
Gray is a retired political science professor from John Cabot University and known for his impeccable manners and elite social connections.
He was charged with orchestrating a sophisticated theft operation involving high-value jewels and art pieces, stealing over $1 million worth of valuables from homes in five states over the course of a decade.
His victims included acquaintances he met through social events as well as his longtime lover and Washington D.C. power broker Jacqueline Quillen.
Maintaining his innocence, Gray claims that he was persecuted by Quillen’s family due to their disapproval of his relationship with her.
The project, currently untitled, hails from h.wood Media with the film to shift the story to London with Leto’s Gray setting his sights on relics of the British Empire.
