The latest “Star Wars” series, “The Acolyte,” reportedly debuted to 4.8 million viewers in its first 24 hours – giving it the biggest Disney+ premiere of 2024.
The number is according to data provided by the streamer with a view defined as total stream time divided by runtime. It easily beat the acclaimed “X-Men ’97” which pulled in 4 million views globally within its first five days.
Disney+ did not report same-day viewership for last year’s “Ahsoka,” but did say that the show reached 14 million views within its first five days on the platform.
The numbers come as the series has seen an incredible division on Rotten Tomatoes with critics review scores increasing to 92% (7/10) whilst audience scores have plummeted to 29% (1.9/5).
There’s a similar division, albeit less exteme, at Metacritic with a 67/100 from critics and a 3.8/10 from users.
Celebrated filmmaker Kogonada directs the next episode of the series airing June 11th, and the eight-episode run of “The Acolyte” will continue through July 16th.
