Denis Villeneuve has plans to get around to filming “Dune Messiah,” possibly as early as 2026, though he’s likely to tackle something else first. What might that be?
Previously, “Killers of the Flower Moon” screenwriter Eric Roth discussed being hired to write a secret screenplay for Villeneuve – one about “space and time” that’s “very lonely”.
Speculation quickly arose that it was a reference to the long in the works adaptation of “Rendezvous with Rama” that has been around for decades – a project David Fincher was one attached to. Villeneuve’s name has been linked for several years now, but he’s had no more success getting it going than Fincher.
Now though, World of Reel is reporting that Roth’s script is actually an adaptation of Korean author Bo-Young Kim’s short story “I Am Waiting For You”.
Set in the 2080s, it follows a man journeying through time and space in an increasingly desperate and unlikely attempt to reunite with his fiancée. Small incidents, however, wreak havoc on space and time, driving their wedding date further and further away.
Villeneuve also has his political thriller-style “Cleopatra” film in the works, and an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen‘s nonfiction book “Nuclear War” which is expected to shoot after ‘Messiah’.
