With “Deadpool & Wolverine” likely to be Marvel Studios’ biggest hit in years, and likely the year’s biggest film, it’s no surprise that the studio is keen to work with the film’s director Shawn Levy again.
Deadline reports that Levy is the top choice to take the helm of the next “Avengers” film and is already having early conversations to direct.
Levy has reportedly been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, though sources indicate he has not given an answer on whether he would take the gig yet.
The studio is said to be still planning to meet with other directors while they wait on a decision from him.
Levy is currently busy with not just finishing a hurried post-production schedule for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but also as a director and executive producer of the final season of “Stranger Things”. Levy is also said to be developing a “Star Wars” film.
There have been four “Avengers” to date, but the plans for a fifth and sixth one haven’t been quite clear since the exit of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror who was being lined up as the fifth film’s big villain.
Whatever is coming, Marvel intends to begin shooting the project next year and the trade indicates that more than 60 MCU actors could reprise their roles for the new film.
