Alien: Romulus is coming to a theater near you August 16. The hype machine is starting to build up in earnest with an official trailer.
“There’s something in the water!”
Jaws is back and…wait…what?
I’m sorry. The ALIEN is back. I got confused with the “something in the water” line there for a second.
The official trailer for Alien: Romulus has hit the Interwebs.
Alien: Romulus stars Cailee Spaeny. She was in…a movie once. I think…
Meanwhile, Fede Alvarez is in the director chair. Alvarez is known for his work on the Don’t Breathe franchise and riding the coattails of other IPs like Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and even From Dusk till Dawn.
The official premise of Alien: Romulus is thus…Set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), the story sees “a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
Judging by the trailer, it looks like they are really leaning into the facehuggers in this one. We seem to get more facehuggers than in all the other Alien movies combined. The film also seems to have kind of a Dead Space aesthetic. Can it improve upon the last couple entries, Prometheus and Covenant, which were much maligned, even though they were directed by Ridley Scott himself?
Alien: Romulus looks like it is maybe a return to simpler times and leaves the thematic murkiness of Scott’s last two movies behind.
Check it out…
