The second season of the animated series “Star Trek: Prodigy” has finally set a release date with the series to launch on Netflix on July 1st.
All twenty episodes of the second season are expected to officially premiere on that date. It follows in the wake of a French streamer accidentally releasing the entirety of the second season all at once and without any prior warning or announcement in late March.
Paramount+ famously and abruptly cancelled the series in June last year – even as the second season had almost finished production and was completed shortly after.
It took numerous fan campaigns and social media protests, but ultimately, Netflix picked up both completed seasons in October 2023. The streamer re-aired the first season late last year, whilst the second season will be an all-new Netflix original.
Trekcore found the date, indicating that Netflix has begun promoting the run in the user interface of its streaming apps.
The first season followed a young cast of alien teens who come across an abandoned experimental Starfleet vessel, the Protostar, and use it to travel the stars in the hopes of ultimately becoming Starfleet Academy students.
Though the second season is said to serve as a fitting end, the showrunners indicate more seasons could come if Prodigy does well for Netflix.
