“The Great” star Elle Fanning is reportedly in talks to star in “The Badlands,” the next film within the “Predator” universe at 20th Century Studios.
Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg, who revitalised the franchise with the Amber Midthunder-led “Prey,”re-teamed with that film’s scribe Patrick Aison for the ‘Badlands’ story.
Aison is penning the script and Trachtenberg will direct. It’s not clear if this will go straight to streaming like “Prey” did, or will try for a theatrical release. “Prey” scored rave reviews and broke viewing records for Hulu.
“Prey” was set in 1719 and followed a young Comanche woman pitted against an alien hunter, but “The Badlands” will reportedly be set sometime in the future and so will follow all new characters. Plot and character details are under wraps.
20th Century Studios reportedly has a number of “Predator” projects in development, with Trachtenberg being set up at the new chief of that franchise.
Fanning is coming off an Emmy nomination and three Golden Globe nomination for her work in period comedy “The Great”.
