A new report in The New York Times (via Bespin Bulletin) indicates the latest “Star Wars” live-action series “The Acolyte” will be the second most expensive “Star Wars” series to date.
The series reportedly has a budget of $180 million across the whole eight-episode run which works out to $22.5 million per episode.
That’s about on par with any major streaming series these days. “Fallout” cost $19 million per episode, “House of the Dragon” is around $20 million and the Marvel series have gotten as high as $25 million per episode.
It’s not the most expensive “Star Wars” series to date though, that remains the first season of “Andor”. Though it was comparable per episode, with its longer twelve episode run it came in at a total budget of $250 million.
Both shows were filmed in the UK where the productions will receive tax breaks but financial details are disclosed for public record.
The “Skeleton Crew” series later this year boasts a budget of $136 million which seems cost-effective by comparison – yet is still reportedly the most expensive of all the California based “Star Wars” productions like “Mandalorian,” “Ahsoka” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi”.
Bespin Bulletin has also revealed the runtimes for the first four episodes of the series and they clock in shorter than you might expect.
The first episode runs for 41 minutes, the second for 36 minutes, the third for 42 minutes and the fourth for just 32 minutes.
“Star Wars: The Acolyte” premieres on Disney+ on June 4th.
