“3 Body Problem” series creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo have, finally, cleared up the confusion still stirring over Netflix’s renewal of the sci-fi series.
In mid-May, Netflix announced it was renewing the divisive series and it had ordered ‘additional episodes’ which aims to ‘finish the story’ – taking it through the end of the events depicted in the original trilogy of novels.
So was that a multi-season renewal order? It wasn’t clear and a week later the trio couldn’t give an episode or season count, only saying that “the number of episodes aligns with their original plan to adapt the next two novels” and suggesting it was more than one season.
Yesterday though, they finally confirmed that a second and third season are on the way – the group revealing the news during a Television Academy panel at the Netflix FYSEE space (via Deadline).
The trio says the format will allow them to tell the story as they had intended. Weiss says:
“We included a lot of what we loved from the [novels] in Season 1, but the vast majority of reasons we wanted to make this show are in Season 2. We always wanted to get to the final page of the third book, and it’s really, really thrilling to us that we will get to do just that.”
The book chronicles humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization. It follows a young woman, whose fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day.
When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unflinching detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.
