Sony held a State of Play presentation yesterday and, as previously reported, revealed some dates such as the “Silent Hill 2” remake launch along with “God of War Ragnarok” on PC and the “Until Dawn” remake trailer.
It also released trailers for a half dozen upcoming titles with one in particular doing incredibly well – the other, not so much.
Going by the reactions, the scene stealer of the entire show was “Astro Bot,” developer Team Asobi’s much bigger follow-up to the universally praised free PS5 launch title – the 3D platformer “Astro’s Playroom”.
That original 2020 game, which snagged an 83 on Metacritic at the time, boasted the best use of the DualShock controller to date. The few complaints about it were that it was too brief.
That’s something this full-fledged game solves by greatly expanding the original’s playing field of 16 levels across four worlds with one that spans over 80 levels across six worlds.
The trailer launched to an incredibly rousing reception, the clip receiving 99% likes on YouTube within the first 8 hours – approximately 23,405 likes vs. just 245 dislikes.
The opposite is true of Sony’s new “Overwatch”-esque 5v5 team shooter “Concord” which bombed on impact with its gameplay trailer. That title received an overwhelmingly negative response with only 18% likes vs. 72% dislikes across tens of thousands of reviews.
Part of the problem was the game first showed off a cinematic trailer teasing a potential single-player sci-fi adventure akin to “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy,” only for the gameplay reveal to be a team-based shooter.
You can check out both titles below along with several other trailers that aired during the presentation.
Astro Bot
Concord
Marvel’s Rivals
Alien: Rogue Incursion (VR)
