Netflix has announced that they are teaming up with game studio Mojang for an animated series based on the latter’s immensely popular “Minecraft” franchise.
Netflix will stream the series and has released a brief announcement trailer which you can see below. No further specifics about the series have been revealed.
News of the new series was released as part of “Minecraft” 15th year anniversary celebrations.
The news also comes just a few weeks after filming on the live-action “Minecraft” movie wrapped in New Zealand. “Napoleon Dynamite” helmer Jared Hess is directing that project.
Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Euge Hansen, Memma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement co-star in the film opening next April.
“Minecraft” is a sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios and released in 2011. It has since become the best-selling video game in history, with over 238 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players.
Players explore a procedurally generated, three-dimensional block world with virtually infinite terrain.
