Disney Pictures launched their first trailer for the “Moana” sequel on Wednesday and it has quickly broken records.
The preview has reportedly clocked up 178 million views in 24 hours, making it the studio’s most-watched trailer for an animated movie ever.
It easily beats previous record holders like “Inside Out 2” (157 million), “Frozen 2” (116 million) and “Incredibles 2” (113 million). Views span various social media services including TikTok, YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat.
In the sequel, after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Dwyane Johnson reprises the voice of demigod Maui, while Auli’i Cravalho is back as the voice of the title role. Despite being seven years old, the original was the most streamed movie across all platforms in 2023 according to Nielsen.
“Moana 2” hits cinemas on November 27th.
