James Gunn’s social media feed is basically the single source of truth when it comes to the new DCU and any decisions being made about the future of DC comics adaptions. He interacts with fans freely across his channels, and is not shy about shutting down rumors and conjecture from other sources directly.

According to Dark Horizons, Gunn was talking to fans on his Instagram feed, and a fan asked him directly to wink if he had any plans for Deathstroke. Gunn responded with a winking emoji.

Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez, the character debuted in The New Teen Titans #2 in December 1980.

The character is Slade Wilson, an elite operative in the U.S. Army who gains enhanced physical and mental abilities as a result of experiments being carried out on him. He becomes the ruthless mercenary Deathstroke. He wears a bi-colored, black-and-orange outfit.

Wait a minute – Wade Wilson – mercenary – powers as a result of experiments – dual-colored costume… once again Marvel has just copied DC, haven’t they? Deadpool debuted in (checks notes) 1990. FFS Marvel! You are not even hiding it, are you?

Deathstroke is widely considered the greatest and deadliest assassin in the DC Universe, he serves as the archenemy of Dick Grayson and the Teen Titans, and is also an adversary of other superheroes such as Batman, Green Arrow, and the Justice League.

He was played by Manu Bennett in several seasons on Arrow on the CW. Notably, he was also included in the post-credits scene of both Justice League and the Snyder Cut as an antagonist in the next stage of the story, that never happened. Joe Manganiello played him for these appearances.

The new DC Universe starts with Creatures Commandos this year on Max, followed by Superman next July.
