The fifth and final season of “Star Trek: Discovery” comes to an end this week with Paramount+ releasing the trailer for the extra-sized final episode of the show that began the modern wave of Trek series.
Titled “Life, Itself,” the episode sees Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) chasing down Moll (Eve Harlow) through the portal activated in the penultimate episode.
From the looks of it, they’ve ended up in a dimension where the Progenitors live but the trailer is keeping much of what it looks like under wraps. Meanwhile, acting Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) races to retrieve her even as the Breen close in.
The episode will mark potentially the last time familiar faces like Saru (Doug Jones), Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), Book (David Ajala), and Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio) appear – though with the upcoming “Starfleet Academy” set in the same time period, a cameo or two seems likely in the future.
The trailer comes as Nielsen reports that the fifth episode of the season, “Mirrors,” clocked up 285 million minutes streamed in its release week. That’s the best-ranked episode so far this season, even outpacing the penultimate episode of the final season of “Star Trek: Picard”.
The “Discovery” finale releases via the Paramount+ service on May 30th.
