By Diablo Cody and Mason Novick are teaming with Wattpad Webtoon Studios to produce a film adaptation of popular Webtoon webcomic “Death of a Pop Star”.
Screenwriter and producer Isa Mazzei (“Cam,” “How to Blow Up A Pipeline”) will pen the script. Mazzei is currently in post-production on an adaptation of “Faces of Death” that she wrote and produced for Legendary Pictures.
Violet Karim created the supernatural webcomic which boasts 33 million global views. The story follows Sophie, a beloved and world famous pop star who, after an unfortunate accident on some stairs, wakes up in Hell.
Turns out the Grim Reaper is her number one fan and, in a desperate attempt to save his idol, secretly gives her a second chance at life back on Earth. But with her resurrection comes a deadly target on her back when she’s threatened with being dragged back to Hell.
Cody will produce the film alongside Mason Novick (“Juno,” “Red Eye”). Aron Levitz, David Madden and Jason Goldberg will executive produce.
Wattpad Webtoon Studios is quickly building a slate of film and TV projects including “Lore Olympus,” “Gremoryland,” “Freaking Romance,” “Chasing Red” and “Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell” all in the works.
