Netflix has announced that Rian Johnson’s third film in his “Knives Out” franchise has scored a title – “Wake Up Dead Man”.
A clip has been released by the streamer, complete with Daniel Craig voiceover, announcing the new title and calling it the “most dangerous case yet” of Craig’s character Benoit Blanc. It also confirms a 2025 release is planned.
A late in 2025 release is likely though as filming hasn’t even begun on the project and isn’t expected to get underway until sometime this Fall in London.
The film will mark the second of the two-picture deal Johnson signed on with Netflix to produce and follows in the wake of the franchise’s second film “Glass Onion” which scored a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars.
For now, Craig is the only confirmed returnee from the prior two films. Johnson had to delay working on the project last year due to the strikes but has been busy writing it since they ended late last year.
In a tweet, Johnson says expect something tonally different to what’s come before:
“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
Johnson previously said he would like to see the “A Knives Out Mystery” label on “Glass Onion” be replaced by “A Benoit Blanc Mystery” in future entries – but going by this trailer that isn’t happening as the original label is still there.
