Hmmmmm. Well, OK. You may have forgotten that there is a movie based on Kraven The Hunter coming out. Counting against it is the fact that it is from Sony via their enterprise formerly known as SPUMC. This is where Marvel characters like Morbius and Madame Web go to die.

However, in the plus column, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is good value. It is rated R. It is also made by JC Chandor who made the interesting All Is Lost and the absolutely exquisite Margin Call.

When Sony moved it out of a summer release slot, you could be forgiven for fearing the worst. Not so, says producer Matt Tolmach.

In an interview with Collider, Tolmach says this was deliberate and a very positive move to help the movie stand alone as it is worthy of the attention:

“Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again. That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. We’re really excited. But that’s a great move that reflects just the feeling about the movie.”

The movie follows Russian immigrant and big-game hunter Sergei Kravinoff who goes on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. In the comics, Kraven was a key enemy of Spider-Man and also went up against Daredevil and the Punisher from time to time.

Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Russell Crowe, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Levi Miller all co-star.

Kraven the Hunter now opens in cinemas on December 13th.
