Blumhouse Productions is reportedly developing a second remake of 1981’s Canadian slasher feature “My Bloody Valentine” according to Bloody Disgusting.
George Mihalka directed the original in which a decades-old folk tale surrounding a deranged murderer killing those who celebrate Valentine’s Day turns out to be true.
A group of young adults in Nova Scotia decide to throw a party on that day, only to incur the vengeful wrath of a maniac in mining gear who begins a killing spree.
The film developed a large cult following over the years and was infamous for having nine minutes cut by the Motion Picture Association of America due to the amount of violence and gore. That excised footage still exists but hasn’t been released.
The film spawned a 3D remake in 2009 which saw “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles, “Dawson’s Creek” alum Kerr Smith and Jaime King co-starring and which shifted the action to Pennsylvania. The Patrick Lussier-directed film grossed $100.7 million worldwide on a budget of $14 million.
No word on what the plot or cast of the new version might be as it seems to be very early days yet.
