Steven Spielberg‘s next directorial effort has locked down a May 15th 2026 release date according to Variety.
What that project will be, and whether it ties to reports that Spielberg was working on an original UFO story, isn’t clear.
What is clear is his “Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “War of the Worlds” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” scribe David Koepp confirmed to be penning the script and Universal Pictures distributing.
It appears that this is being positioned as a Summer tentpole, Spielberg’s first since the fourth “Indiana Jones”.
Universal so confident in the new film they have dated the movie to open between the next Marvel Studios “Avengers” film on May 1st, and the next “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian and Grogu” on May 22nd.
Spielberg is reportedly working with Martin Scorsese on a television project based on the “Cape Fear” films. He is coming off 2022’s “The Fabelmans” which was an awards darling but fizzled at the box-office.
