I was going to start this by saying something about ruining a “perfect trilogy”. However, the Beverly Hills Cop movies are not a perfect trilogy. The first one was great, the second one wasn’t as good and the third one. Remember that George Lucas was cast in it.

Achmed Foley is back in Beverly Hills on request from Billy, here is the trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley:

There are a lot of ‘memberberries in there. It looks like the trope of “Remember that cool movie from the 80s you loved, well here is everyone back together, looking old”.

It’s big business in Hollywood at the moment, see almost every sequel from the last 10 years for reference.

The story for this fourth in the series is:

“After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”

It is good to see they haven’t used a trope of “Axel having an estranged daughter that he doesn’t get on with” though.

Oh, wait, well, at least we know they will love each other by the end of the movie.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F brings the band back together. Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.

This time around, they are joined by, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylor Paige and Kevin Bacon. I’m calling it now, Bacon is one of the bad guys.

Director, Mark Molloy, said that he just wanted Murphy, Reinhold and Ashton back in the car together:

“Eddie, John, and Judge sat in the car and they would just talk shit and they told me that a lot of the first film is some of those moments when they were just allowed to sit there and talk to each other. I always had that image of those three guys on a stakeout in the car together, it was just imprinted in my brain. And then I remember sitting with the three of them in that car, and I actually happened to look around at the crew filming it. I just saw on everyone’s faces, like, Oh man, this is exactly where we want to be right now.“

I like to think of the three of them now just sitting there starting each sentence with “Back in my day…”.

I’m being a bit cynical here, but do we really need another Axel F movie? At least it has to be better than 3 right?

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will be streaming on Netflix on 3rd July.
