Shark movies… blah, blah… only really a couple of good ones… blah, blah. You know the drill. Somebody else is making an attempt at a shark movie that doesn’t suck with The Last Breath.

This is most definitely not to be confused with Last Breath, a documentary from 2019 telling the story of a deep sea diver who was stranded on the seabed with 5 minutes of oxygen and no hope of rescue, and his fight for survival.

The Last Breath follows five college friends on a gorgeous Caribbean island, reunited for a carefree weekend of revelry and romance. They embark on a scuba diving tour of a newly uncovered WW2 shipwreck, but what they discover lurking in the ruins below is beyond their darkest fears.

Tranquillity turns to tragedy, when the group is forced to take refuge in an airlock within the labyrinth of the wreck, hunted at every turn by sharks. With their oxygen rapidly running out and the predators closing in, they must fight to survive and save those they love most. Will they escape or will this be their last breath?

The schpiel mentions Great White sharks, but the trailer and publicity stills seem to show Bull Sharks, which you may know as Nature’s Bastards.

What is notable about this movie is that, according to the IMDB, it also stars the late Julian Sands in what must be his final film role.

The Last Breath is released on 1st July.
