What is Club 33? Those in the know will tell you.
The original Club 33 is located in Disneyland, above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and next to Walt Disney’s former apartment. It is an exclusive and private club. It first opened in 1967, and was modeled after the numerous executive VIP lounges created by pavilion sponsors in the 1964 New York World’s Fair, one of Walt Disney’s inspirations for his original theme park.
At the time of opening, Club 33 was the only location within Disneyland Park to offer alcoholic beverages.
Today, Club 33 comprises a number of private dining clubs located within the various Disney Parks. There is one at Tokyo Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland, plus a lounge in each of the four theme parks of the Walt Disney World Resort.
Additionally Disneyland Club 33 members, and their guests, also have access to the 1901 Lounge at the Carthay Circle Restaurant in Disney California Adventure.
How could an Outposter gain access to this exclusive experience, you ask? Well, have a significant amount of fully disposable income, for a start. For Disney World in Florida, the initiation, or upfront fee, to join Club 33 is $33,000.
After becoming a member, there is an additional $15,000 annual fee. Disneyland also offers a Club 33 membership which costs $25,000 upfront and $10,000 annually. This, of course, would also mean you run the risk of paying all that money only to find yourself surrounded by “Disney Adults” (gack!).
Now this Disneyfied expression of eliteism is being turned into a movie. Darren Lemke (Goosebumps, Shazam!) is producing, and the story is said to be a fantasy adventure along the lines of A Night At The Museum.
The Hollywood Reporter says it follows Kim, a young aspiring detective living in present-day New York, who receives a mysterious invite to the highly secretive Club 33 and discovers a magical and exclusive dining club that exists outside of time and space.
So not a Red Lobster, then?
The plot unfolds as a murder is committed in the club, and members who comprise great geniuses, royalty, and history-makers from the past look to Kim to solve it.
