Amazon MGM is officially moving forward with its planned film adaptation of “The Sims” video game franchise reports Puck News.
Margot Robbie will produce the project which is being helmed by “Loki” first season director Kate Herron – both were linked to the project back in March when no distributor was attached.
Amazon MGM Studios reportedly landed the project after a bidding war – the promise of a theatrical release being a major component. Robbie could, but will not necessarily star in the film.
In the game, players control virtual avatars and have them do all manners of things, from building homes to falling in love, raising children, even killing their characters. Successive expansion packs and games allow the player to do more and more.
The first game debuted in 2000 and saw subsequent mainline entries in 2004, 2009 and 2014. 20th Century Studios attempted a film adaptation back in 2007 with Brian Lynch penning the script.
Robbie, Roy Lee, Josey McNamara and Tom Ackerley will produce.
