In the wake of the success of the “X-Men ’97” animated series, Marvel Studios is finally getting started on its efforts to bring the X-Men back into live-action.
Deadline reports that “The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes” and “Now You See Me 3” writer Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to pen a new “X-Men” film.
The trade emphasises that the film is still in the early development stage with no talent or director attached and no release date set.
The only other hire on the project is Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige himself who will produce.
Last Fall came the news that Feige and Marvel Studios execs were meeting with numerous candidates about the writing assignment, but it wasn’t until late last week that Lesslie emerged as the winner.
Next will come the hiring of a director to oversee development which is expected to take years. Even before Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its library closed in 2019, fans have been calling for Marvel Studios to do a full X-Men film.
