“The Office” star Steve Carell is set to lead the cast of an untitled HBO single-camera comedy that hails from “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses (“Scrubs”).
The comedy is set on a college campus and centers on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.
Lawrence and Tarses will write the first episode of the series which HBO has handed out a straight-to-series order for – the first season set to run ten episodes.
A bidding war for the property broke out before HBO snapped up the rights. Warner Bros. Television is producing the series and Lawrence, Tarses and Carell will all executive produce along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.
Lawrence says: “HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV. Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now.”
Lawrence and Tarses are also working on the Vince Vaughn-led Apple series “Bad Monkey” due out shortly.
