Jesse Plemons is joining and Emma Stone will again re-team with six-time Oscar nominated filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos for his next feature “Bugonia” which has landed at Focus Features.
Will Tracy penned the film in which two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
Will Tracy penned the film which is a remake of 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy “Save the Green Planet”. Production is slated to begin in June.
Peter Kujawski, Chairman of Focus Features, says in a statement:
“Yorgos Lanthimos is a cinematic visionary with a singular style that has captivated audiences worldwide. We could not be more excited to partner with him, Emma and the incredible teams at Element, Square Peg and CJ ENM to reimagine this twisted and darkly funny story.”
Lanthimos, Stone, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko produce. Universal Pictures is distributing the film internationally, excluding Korea.
The news comes as Lanthimos’ “Kinds of Kindness” just had its world premiere at the 77th Festival de Cannes to rave reviews and opens theatrically in the U.S. on June 21st.
