After the “Helldivers 2” debacle, Sony PlayStation got in front of PSN account linking issues with the PC release of “Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut”.
They put the requirement (which is for the multiplayer part of the game only) in ahead of the game’s release, and blocked the sale of the title in those countries that don’t have PSN.
The result is the game launched on Thursday on Steam to very positive reviews with the few negative ones almost all protesting the PSN linkage as opposed to issues with the game itself. Nixxes Software handled the port which has also been highly praised in terms of minimal bugs or issues.
Now, SteamDB is reporting that the game has attracted a peak of 59,244 concurrent players on Steam in its first day – that makes it the fourth biggest launch to date for a Sony published game on the platform.
The title was beaten only by multiplayer-centric “Helldivers 2” (458,709), and single-player titles “God of War” (73,529) and “Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered” (66,436).
That puts it also ahead of the two “Horizon: Zero Dawn” titles at around 56,000 or so each, “The Last of Us Part I” at 36,496, “Days Gone” at 27,450 and other titles like “Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales,” “Returnal,” “Sackboy: A Big Adventure” and “Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
It’s not clear what Playstation-to-PC port is coming next beyond a likely “God of War Ragnarok” PC jump towards year’s end, and the previously announced “Final Fantasy XVI” PC port. Considering “The Last of Us Part II Remastered” released back in January, it’s quite possible a PC version of it will be coming in the near future too.
